C-Mill Treadmill for Balance and Gait Training

CHI Health Midlands is first in the region to use an innovative new clinical treadmill called the C-Mill by Motek. It’s a leap forward for functional movement therapy because it uses augmented reality, virtual reality, acoustic cues and force plate technology for evaluating and training impaired gait and balance.

While traditional therapy involves parallel bars and obstacle courses for gait and balance training, the C-Mill instantly creates a virtual reality environment with a variety of therapeutic challenges.

Patients take more steps per therapy session compared to conventional parallel bar therapy. That means increased intensity, repetition and treatment time. Patients also have more fun as they experience a virtual environment with simulated real-life situations.

Therapy Applications for the Treadmill

The C-Mill is used for gait, balance, stability and fall prevention for patients with a variety of conditions, including:

  • Neurological conditions
  • Orthopedic conditions
  • Spinal injury
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Movement disorders
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Lower limb amputee

Tailored Experience for Patients

The C-Mill allows therapists to personalize therapy for each patient. A few clicks sets challenges, measures performance, monitors progress and generates reports. Using that data, each session can be tailored to the patient’s current challenges and areas of progress.

Real-Time Data

The C-Mill’s force plate technology instantly and automatically records step length, width frequency and symmetry – all without wires or markers. Ability to analyze this data in real time allows our physical therapists to spend more time focusing on an intensive and efficient physical therapy experience.

Comprehensive Therapy Services

CHI Health Midlands is proud to include the C-Mill among the tools used by our physical therapists, who focus on the whole body and use various forms of exercise and manual techniques. Our team has specializations in many areas to accommodate patients’ specific needs.
