Esophageal Diseases and Intestinal Dysmotility

The Esophageal Diseases and Intestinal Dysmotility clinic uses a multidisciplinary approach in management of benign and malignant disorders of esophagus and intestinal motility disorders. This center works in close collaboration with thoracic and colorectal surgery.

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Barrett’s esophagus and early/superficial gastroesophageal cancers
  • Dysphagia, organic and functional
  • Esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia, Jackhammer esophagus
  • Eosinophillic esophagitis
  • Gastroparesis
  • Anorectal motility disorders

  • Esophageal pH testing, probe and capsule (Bravo)
  • Esophageal Manometery, high-resolution
  • Multichannel intraluminal impedance
  • Anorectal manometery

Procedures

  • Endoscopy, diagnostic
  • Esophageal dilations
  • Radiofrequency ablation for Barrett’s esophagus
  • Endoscopic mucosal resection for Barrett’s esophagus and early esophageal cancer
  • Botulinum injections, for spastic gastroesophageal abnormalities

  • Per-oral endoscopic myotomy for achalasia and spastic esophageal motility disorders (POEM)
  • Per-oral endoscopic sub-mucosal tumor resection,  for esophageal and gastric tumors

  • Antireflux mucosectomy for refractory GERD and patients not willing to be on lifelong proton pump inshibitors
