Inpatient Care

Child & Adolescent

For children or adolescents who have behavioral or psychological disorders that require a high degree of care and supervision due to severity, this program resolves the admitting crisis and admitting presenting problems and symptoms as soon as possible and return the youth to the highest level of functioning in the community.

Our treatment approaches and programming are developed with a youth-centered, family-focused, and culturally responsive orientation. It is the interdisciplinary team’s intent to help patients and their families learn age-appropriate coping skills.

Discharge and aftercare recommendations are made by collaborating with the patient, parent or guardian, interdisciplinary team, and referral source to assure continuity of treatment.

An interdisciplinary team provides medical, biological, social, spiritual, behavioral and emotional support as well as referral to rehabilitative services. The team would include attending psychiatrist, nurse, therapist, care manager, behavioral service tech, therapeutic recreation, pharmacist liaison, and chaplain.

Child/Adolescent acute inpatient treatment is offered at CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs and CHI Health Immanuel in Omaha.

Adults

Referrals to adult acute inpatient treatment may be made by any of the following: a psychiatrist and/or a physician, by the Department of Social Services, schools, family, courts, therapists, psychologists, Emergency Departments of CHI Health hospitals or clergy.

Acute inpatient treatment is for adult patients with severe psychiatric needs. The goal is stabilization of the patient presenting symptoms and to restore him/her to an improved quality of life.

After initial evaluation by the physician, the interdisciplinary team will further assess the patient. These professionals collaborate with the patient and the patient’s family to draft a plan of care to begin the healing process. Progress is monitored closely, and when appropriate, the patient proceeds to the next level of care.

When a patient has been stabilized and achieved the maximum benefit from acute care, follow-up care will be offered on an outpatient basis. CHI Health provides follow-up care through its outpatient programs in many convenient locations. The interdisciplinary team provides medical, biological, social, spiritual, behavioral and emotional support.

Adult acute inpatient treatment is offered at CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs and CHI Health Immanuel in Omaha.
