Endocrine Surgery

Endocrine Surgery is focused on surgical treatments of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal gland tumors and neuroendocrine tumors.

Endocrine glands secrete hormones which help your body function properly. A variety of disorders can affect hormone secretion, sometimes requiring surgical intervention. This subspecialty focuses on the surgical management of endocrine disorders, which can affect the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands and other areas of the body.

Thyroid surgery is generally done for patients who have thyroid nodules (growths) or overproduction of thyroid hormone, which regulates your metabolism, heart and digestive function and more. This butterfly-shaped gland is located at the base of your neck.

Parathyroid surgery is typically for people who have overproduction of parathyroid hormone, which controls the body’s calcium. You have four small parathyroid glands, two on each side of the thyroid gland.

Adrenal surgery is done to remove nodules (growths) from the adrenal glands, which are located on top of the kidneys.

Neuroendocrine tumor surgery is also done to remove malignant tumors which occur in the small intestine, but are also found in the pancreas, lungs and other parts of the body.

This subspecialty of general surgery combines a comprehensive understanding of endocrine diseases with specialized surgical training. CHI Health’s endocrine surgery specialist uses the latest and least invasive techniques to surgically manage endocrine disorders.
