Hospital Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship

The 12 month Hospital Medicine APP Fellowship at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy facilitates a graduated transition into practice utilizing an in-depth academic boot camp, robust hospital medicine and patient centered curriculum, focusing on a multidisciplinary approach to medicine in a tertiary academic medicinal center. In addition to working with the APP preceptors and collaborating physicians, our fellows will have the opportunity to participate in academic days with other students and residents, mentorship programs, grand rounds, engage in committees, QI projects and research.

About the Fellowship
This rigorous program is tailored for NPs and PAs who are seeking specialized training in hospital medicine. APP Fellows will receive hands-on experience, mentorship, and didactic education to prepare them for the dynamic and rewarding role of a hospitalist.
APP Fellows will follow a 12 month graduated introduction to patient care supplemented by an academic boot camp, robust curriculum and introduction to system-based practices with the expectation they will hone their knowledge base and skill sets pertaining to Hospital Medicine. Fellows will become proficient in managing disease processes, gain exposure to social determinants of health and work closely with subspecialties to manage complex patients.
Our fellowship, under the guidance of experienced APPs preceptors and physicians will ease the transition into practice in Hospital Medicine with the goal of improving retention and improving job satisfaction.

Program Structure
- Clinical Rotations: Rotations in general medicine, critical care, cardiology, infectious disease, and more
- Simulation Training: Hands-on practice in Creighton University’s simulation lab
- Didactic Learning: Weekly lectures on core topics in hospital medicine, led by expert faculty
- Scholarly Activity: Participation in a quality improvement or research project to enhance patient care
Our Hospital and Our Team
Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy is a 396 bed Academic, Level 1 Trauma, Comprehensive Stroke, and tertiary academic center located in Omaha, Nebraska. Our team of nearly 25 physicians and 6 APPs work collaboratively to manage complex patients and are committed to the education of learners of all levels.
Eligibility and Application Process
To qualify for the program, interested applicants must have less than two years of experience, be interested in pursuing a career in hospital medicine, and be committed to expanding their expertise and skill set in a supervised setting.
Eligibility:
- Certified NP or PA with a master’s or doctoral degree
- Commitment to working in hospital medicine upon completion of the fellowship
